Cultivating good habits to ramp up productivity

I completed my last strength training class at Box Office fitness. To date, I have completed 58 classes since 23 August 2022.


I wanted to try something different after passing my QE last Aug and decided to sign up for the first timers trial costing $98 for 9 classes. I enjoyed the first 9 classes so much that I ended up purchasing an off-peak 50 classes pass at $719.20 after taking advantage of a limited time discount. Of the 50 classes, I gave one class to a friend to try out.



I've gotten so used to going down to Clarke Quay 2 to 3 times a week, that it's going to feel weird not going from next week onward. I often scheduled the 5:30pm class after completing work tasks in the morning and afternoon. It's been a great stress reliever as it helps me to clear my mind at the end of the day. It's also kept me motivated and optimistic. Maybe I'll return to it in the second half of the year or maybe not.

I decided to start a running routine from today in lieu of the strength training classes. I headed to the gym in the evening. I haven't done any runs since the half marathon I did last Dec. So, it's been almost 4 months since I last ran.

I ran approximately 1.5km and brisk walked 2.2km on the treadmill. I felt really good after that. I hope to schedule regular runs for the next couple of months and build up my stamina to run longer distances. Also, planning to add some swim sessions to my workout routine.

As of last night, I started reading a historical fiction book on my Kobo Aura One. It gave my brain a respite from the academic texts I've been reading. I found it to be relaxing actually.


I've decided that I'll only check my social media accounts once a week on the weekend and on other weekdays occasionally if there is an urgent need to. I often feel that my mind is more cluttered than ever after scrolling through updates. So, I realise I don't really feel rested when I use social media during my breaks. My other spare time apart from exercising will be devoted to reading non-academic books and watching movies and TV series.
